Pocahontas's birth year is unknown, but some historians estimate that its birth took place around 1595, based on the writings of Captain John Smith. In A True Relation of Virginia, Smith describes the figure of Pocahontas, whom he met in 1608 as a 10-year-old.Pocahontas is the home of Pauhattan, which ruled Tasnakumaka, an alliance of some 30 Indian tribal groups in Tidewater, Virginia.
